Another update on me not updating ( Wed 19 Jan 2011 )
Hi,
here’s another informative post about my lack of posts during the last year. Also, I wanted to test if I still remembered my wordpress password.
In spite of appearances, this project is not dead. I have been working on all these absolutely ground-breaking rendering techniques that, since Adobe announced 3D support for flash, can go straight to the garbage bin.
Oh well, what you learn is never wasted, I guess…

It’s glad to see you again. Engine is brilliant, with lots of potential. Why stopped?
Could you guys tell me how to fix the ugly white line between two tile bitmaps, thanks a lot!

I wouldn’t say new rendering techniques should go in the bin. We’re still almost a year out from the release of Flash 11… and having some sort of fall back is probably not a bad idea.

Nooooo don’t give up on this engine. I am a game development student and I am looking for an isometric engine to use for a game me and my team are planning to make. Basing from your demos, your engine has most of the features we need.
It’s a good thing that flash is now supporting 3D but that doesn’t mean that you should stop working on your engine. 2D game developers need tools to help lessen the programming workload so that they can put more effort on gameplay/story/unique features of their games. People are now more into casual games and your engine has the potential to boost development of isometric casual games. 2D games will never be obsolete. You’re still in the game so please don’t get discouraged ^_^

I’m not giving up. I’m just waiting until I see what the next player has to offer and how does it affect my work

what is clearly sad, is that the main bugs of your latest release like that “occuling” bug (this line Kevin talked about), or the other ones seen on the forum are not managed.
Cause clearly i searched for many, many isomtric engines, and when i see other one commercial ones, yours is just amazing. running quite good on my poor netbook. amazing…
Well 3d and molehill will need so many things to learn, when your engine just do the main needed things so good…
That’s sad for me !

@Kevin: I don’t think you can fix the white lines in between textures without changing the way the floor/plane renderer works. Because each individual section of the floor has the isometric transformation applied to it you are going to have small gaps that do not line up perfectly. The solution to this is to perform an isometric transformation on the entire floor at once.
Changing this means you have to change quite a few other things in the engine (specifically lighting and shadows…I Think).

You are absolutely right. It’s the rounding imperfections of the player itself that causes this issue.
